State K-12 Students Make Greatest Gains
A newly released report, "Achievement Growth: International and U.S. State Trends in Student Performance" (PDF), shows that students in the state of Maryland made the greatest gains in reading, math and science compared to their peers across the nation between 1995 and 2009.
"American students gained the equivalent of one additional year of learning over that time, they estimated," according to an article about the report in The Washington Post. "And in top-performing states, including Maryland, students acquired an additional two years of learning in the same period."
The results of the report follow an EducationWeek ranking that placed Maryland public schools ahead of all other U.S. states.
