Maryland Engineering at the 2022 ASEE Annual Conference

Come and meet Maryland Engineering at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference being held at the Minneapolis Convention Center from June 26–29, 2022.

This year, the University of Maryland (UMD) is showcasing a variety of impressive student research projects and presenting a technical session on the Engineering for US All (e4usa) high school educational program to conference attendees—all under the banner of the college’s “The World Goes to Maryland” campaign.

The technical session will take place on Monday, June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CDT, in room 101B. The panelists, including the project’s Principal Investigator and UMD President Darryll J. Pines, as well as e4usa Co-Director and Vanderbilt University Adjunct Professor Stacy Klein-Gardner, will provide an overview of this NSF-funded program and update the community on its progress and status. The session will conclude with roundtable discussions where the speakers will talk about partnership opportunities and seek guidance from session attendees.

You are also welcome to stop by the Clark School’s booth #915 in the exhibit hall to chat with faculty and students and see their breakthrough research on display. Mechanical engineering graduates Joseph O’Leary and Mikhail Khrenov will present a self-balancing electric bicycle that won the Team of the Year award at the Gemstone Program competition earlier this year.

Don’t miss the soft robotic hand that plays (and wins!) Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. game. Postdoctoral researcher Sunandita Sarker will be happy to talk about this innovation in robotics and artificial intelligence and help the attendees set the game parameters for the robot.

Aerospace engineering student Koushik Marepally is bringing a working prototype of a 500-year old design to Minneapolis. Crimson Spin, a drone inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s “aerial screw” design will be displayed at our booth, proving both the artist’s genius and Maryland students’ creativity.

Finally, ASEE attendees curious about continuing education can learn more at Maryland Applied Graduate Engineering’s counter. And, if they are lucky, conference attendees can catch Maryland Engineering Dean Samuel Graham, Jr. in the exhibit hall.
