Ducao Takes First Place at MERIT Fair

Clark School electrical and computer engineering (ECE) undergraduate Amon Ducao took a first prize in the 2005 Maryland Engineering Research Internship Teams (MERIT) Fair last week.

Ducao, who competed in the RITE (Research Internship in Telecommunications) category, worked with Rama Chellappa, professor of ECE and the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, on "Human Movement Modeling Using a Multi-Camera System."

Another University of Maryland student, physics undergrad Victor Huang, took first place in the PEER (Power and Energy Electronics Research) category for his work on "The Role of Metals in Achieving n-Type Carbon Nanotube Field-Effect Transistors" with physics professor Michael Fuhrer and Dr. Alma Wickenden at the Army Research Laboratory.

The MERIT Fair is held at the end of the summer to showcase the research conducted by MERIT program undergraduate students during their 11-week summer session. The fair provides them with the opportunity to present their work to the wider public. Their efforts are scrutinized by a panel of judges selected from academia, industry, and government laboratories.

The MERIT Program is open to students from across the United States.
