Clark School Alumnus Tapped for Deputy Secretary of Defense
Gordon England, '61, has been nominated by President Bush to fill the position of Deputy Secretary of Defense.
The nomination of Mr. England, who currently serves as Secretary of the Navy, is pending approval of the U.S. Senate. He formerly served as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security from January 2003 to September 2003.
A native of Baltimore and an electrical engineering major here at the Clark School, Mr. England currently lives in Texas.
Mr. England served as executive vice president of General Dynamics Corporation from 1997 until 2001. Previously, he served as executive vice president of the Combat Systems Group, president of General Dynamics Fort Worth aircraft company (later Lockheed), president of General Dynamics Land Systems Company, and as the principal of a mergers and acquisition consulting company.
If approved by the Senate, Mr. England will fill the position vacated by Paul Wolfowitz, who was confirmed as the next head of the World Bank last month.
