Cory Hayes

Cory J. Hayes is a Computer Scientist in the Content Understanding Branch at U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, MD. His research focuses on developing adaptable agents that can process verbal and nonverbal feedback from their human teammates in response to the actions of the agent in cooperative tasks, and tailor its behavior over multiple interactions to better meet the expectations of the interacting user in a dynamic similar to human team building exercises. He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Alabama, during which he also participated in a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program hosted at the University of Georgia and joined the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program at Alabama. He attended graduate school at the University of Notre Dame where he earned both his M.S. in Computer Science & Engineering and Ph.D. with a focus in Human-Robot Interaction. He joined ARL in 2016 as a postdoctoral fellow in the (now) Intelligent Robotics Branch and became a full-time employee in 2019.
