Arnaud Trouvé Named Fellow of The Combustion Institute
Arnaud Trouvé - professor of Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) at the University of Maryland (UMD) - was recently elected Fellow of The Combustion Institute for his outstanding contributions in the application of direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large eddy simulation (LES) to the study of turbulent flames in combustion engines and in fires. This Fellowship recognizes outstanding contributors to the international combustion community - in research or in applications - and supports advancement to leadership positions within the Fellow's home institution.
"I'm honored to have been elected Fellow of The Combustion Institute," Professor Trouvé said. "And to be recognized for research that has essentially been my life's work."
DNS is a high-resolution approach to solving the governing equations of turbulent reaction flows. This approach is typically for research-level computational projects, but due to the cost, DNS is limited to academic configurations. Conversely, LES is a high-to-medium-resolution approach with applications in both research-level and engineering-level computational modeling. LES can be used for fine-grained simulations of laboratory-scale flames as well as coarse-grained simulations of engineering configurations.
