EARN YOUR DEGREE CLOSE TO HOME

The University of Maryland's  A. James Clark School of Engineering offers a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (EE) program to students in the Southern Maryland region.   The program is ideal for students who have completed an Associate's of Science in Engineering (ASE) degree in Electrical Engineering at the College of Southern Maryland.

The program offers students the opportunity to take their junior and senior year courses of the EE program at the University Systems of Maryland - Southern Maryland (USM-SM) campus in St. Mary's county.

The new Southern Maryland Autonomous Research and Technology (SMART) building at USMSM provides students with unique learning opportunities. Not only is the building LEED certified for minimizing its impact on the environment, it also offers many high-end labs and work spaces to ensure that students get the hands-on experience that will contribute to their success in the Electrical Engineering major.

LEARN FROM FACULTY WITH HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

Electrical Engineering courses at the USM-SM campus are taught by faculty members from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, as well as  experienced part-time faculty members with strong connections to the Patuxtent River Naval Air Station.

GET REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE

You are encouraged to pursue valuable hands-on experience by applying to a competitive vacancy job announcement at NAWC-AD, which has developed an academic partnership with the University of Maryland to provide students with hands-on experience in conjunction with their academic studies. The NAWC-AD program may offer tuition and provides employment during the summers and holidays.

Other companies may offer internships, which include full-time employment during the summer that may lead to part-time internships during the academic year or during winter break. The majority of positions are paid. An internship position can help you:

  • Get the job you want following graduation by working as you complete your degree. Serious engineering experience will ensure that you and your resume attract attention from employers.
  • Save money for school, car or other priorities.
  • Make connections with people in your field and in the region.
  • Gain the confidence, knowledge and skills that are essential to succeed in the work world and in life.
  • Receive a job offer if you perform well with your current employer.
