Students enrolled in term-based courses, as well as non-term-based courses such as Open Learning courses and those made with the EMT Create Organization tool, have full access to the messaging capabilities of the ELMS Inbox Conversion tool. In addition to communicating with instructors and TAs, the tool can be used to communicate with individual students or all students enrolled in their courses.
EMT manage student messaging permissions
Using the Manage Student Messaging Permissions tool and the Manage Student Messaging Permissions, Non-term Based Courses tool in the ELMS Management Tool (EMT), instructors can manage students' ability to message other students. These tools provide the following options:
- Student to class and student to individual student(s): Allows students unrestricted messaging in a Canvas course. With this choice, students have the ability to message instructors, TAs, and other students. In Canvas this is the default Student role.
- Student to individual student(s) only: Allows students to message only individual students in a Canvas course. With this choice students are not able to message the entire class with a single click; they would have to check the box next to each individual student's name. In Canvas, this is the S2S Comm Only role.
- No student-to-student messaging: Allows students to message only instructors and TAs in a Canvas course. With this choice, students in your course would not be able to message other students in Canvas, but they would still be able to message instructors and TAs. In Canvas, this is the No S2S Comm role.
