Enable 2-step verification on your UMD Google account and create an app password
The Mail application does not support adding a UMD Google account using the Sign in with Google option. You will need to enable 2-Step Verification on your UMD Google Account, and create an app password for the Mail application. See Sign in with app passwords for instructions enabling 2-Step Verification and creating an app password.
Configure Mail
- Open Mail.
- Select Accounts. The Manage accounts tab will display.
- Select Add account. The Add an account window will display.
- Select Advanced setup.
- Select POP or IMAP accounts that let you view your email in a web browser..
- Enter your UMD email address as the Email address and User name.
- Enter the app password you created in the Password field.
- Enter a name in the Account name. For example, "My UMD". This is the name of the account that will display in the Mail application.
- Enter your name in the Send your messages using this name.
- Enter imap.gmail.com as the Incoming email server.
- Select IMAP4 as the Account type.
- Enter smtp.gmail.com as the Outgoing (SMTP) email server.
- Leave the following checkboxes enabled:
- Outgoing server requires authentication
- Use the same user name and password for sending email
- Require SSL for incoming email
- Require SSL for outgoing email
- Select Sign in.
