Issue
MATLAB reports Error 510: Invalid Activation Key (510) during activation.
Environment
MATLAB for Students - Individual Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license
Resolution
Deactivate one of the devices where MATLAB is already activated. Please review MathWork's Deactivate Your Installation article for instructions specific to the device's operating system.
If you no longer have access to the device(s) to perform MathWork's instruction, you can manually deactivate your installation(s).
- Go to the MathWorks login portal.
- Enter your MathWorks.com credentials to authenticate. The site will display the My MathWorks Account page.
- Select MATLAB (Individual) in the My Software section. The License Center will display license information and available actions.
- Select the Install and Activate tab.
- Select Deactivate a Computer under the Related Tasks sidebar. A table of Activated Computers will appear.
- Select the X icon, under the Deactivate column, of the computer you wish to deactivate. A prompt confirming you want to deactivate will appear.
Cause
The Individual MATLAB Total Academic Headcount (TAH) license permits individuals to have two activated devices, and MATLAB is preventing an additional activation.
