NVivo 12.

Description of issue

Customer called with an issue where they had an existing installation of NVivo 12. After using the product for a year, NVivo 12 prompted the customer to activate the software again. Customer was using the same computer with the same installation that they were previously using. No major updates or reinstallation of the software on this machine.

Underlying cause

Activation of this NVivo product appears to expire after a time. Potentially 12 months or at a set date. The exact conditions of expiration are unknown.

Solution

NVivo 12 is a software application available for download for Microsoft Windows and Apple MacOS. It is a data analysis tools to help users analyze large amounts of unorganized data.

If activation is expired, you do not have to uninstall the software. Generating a new product key from TERPware will re-activate the software without re-installing it. Follow steps 4 and 5 from the instructions below to generate a new product key from TERPware. Active your new product key by following these steps from NVivo: Activating and deactivating a license.

To install and activate NVivo 12, follow the steps below.

1. Access the installer at the appropriate links on TERPware Windows or Mac OS.
2. Download the file either using the link on TERPware or directly from the publisher. Installers are available for both 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows as well as MacOS.
   NOTE: If you are on Windows, make sure you download the version of the software that is appropriate for your installation of Windows. A 32-bit (x86) version will run on all supported versions of windows while a 64-bit installation will only work with 64-bit installations of the operating system.
3. Open the file once it has finished downloading. For reference, the file should be named NVivo12.x.64 or NVivo12.x.86 with the extension of .exe on Windows. On Mac, the File will be named NVivo12.dmg by default. Complete the installation wizard.
4. You will be prompted to enter a product key. Generate this key on TERPware: Windows or Mac OS. Click Log In for access on TERPware.
5. Click Get Product Key. A product key will appear that you can use to activate the software.
6. The product is now installed and activated on your computer.
