Changes in supported operating systems platforms
The MATLAB software vendor, MathWorks, has dropped support for 32-bit Windows and OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) and added support for new Debian and Ubuntu Linux releases.
Platforms no longer supported
32-bit Windows: Support for all 32-bit Windows operating systems was dropped as of R2016a.
OS X 10.9 (Mavericks): Support was dropped as of R2016a; support for newer releases of OS X will continue.
Newly supported platforms
Debian 8: Support begins with R2016a.
OS X 10.11 (El Capitan): Support began with R2015b.
Ubuntu 15.04 and 15.10: Support begins with R2016a.
Change in Policy for Linux Support
MathWorks has changed its support policy to follow Red Hat's and SUSE's own support approach to minor versions. This change does not impact support for major versions.
The effect of this change is as follows for R2016a:
SUSE: 11 SP4 is the only minor version of 11 that remains supported.
Red Hat: RHEL 6.6 and newer are the only minor versions of RHEL 6 that remain supported.
See the platform road map for the latest information on planned platform changes to MathWorks products.
Patch for R2016a
The MATLAB vendor, MathWorks, has released a patch to make the R2016a application software work with redundant license servers (ie: athos.umd.edu, porthos.umd.edu, aramis.umd.edu). You will need to install the R2016a release the usual way; then download and install the patch-set appropriate for your system from the vendor site(follow the patch installation instructions there).
If you do not need the R2016a release, wait for the R2016b scheduled for October as this patch will be included.
If you have questions or concerns about the university license servers, open a ticket by sending email to itsupport@umd.edu.
