AALAS: The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is a membership association of professionals employed around the world in academia, government, and private industry who are dedicated to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals, as well as the quality research that leads to scientific gains that benefit people and animals. AALAS provides educational materials to laboratory animal care professionals and researchers, administers certification programs for laboratory animal technicians and managers, publishes scholarly journals, supports laboratory animal science research, and serves as the premier forum for the exchange of information and expertise in the care and use of laboratory animals.

ACLAM: The American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) is a specialty board recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as the certifying organization for laboratory animal medicine, a recognized specialty within the veterinary medical profession. ACLAM was founded in 1957 to:

  • encourage education, training, and research in laboratory animal medicine;
  • establish standards of training and experience for veterinarians professionally involved with the care and health of laboratory animals; and
  • recognize qualified persons in laboratory animal medicine, through certification examination and other means.

ASLAP: The American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners (ASLAP) is a membership organization of veterinarians involved in laboratory animal medicine and welfare. ASLAP’s mission is to advance laboratory animal medicine and welfare through member development and representation in the greater professional community. ASLAP achieves this through advocacy, education and collaboration. ASLAP is the only organization to officially represent laboratory animal veterinarians within the American Veterinary Medical Association's (AVMA’s) governance structure. Importantly, ASLAP promotes laboratory animal science within organized veterinary medicine and helps the AVMA promote research.

LAMA: The Laboratory Animal Management Association (LAMA) is an association dedicated to advancing the quality of management and care of laboratory animals throughout the world. LAMA advances the laboratory animal management profession through education, knowledge exchange and professional development. Members are involved with management and supervision of laboratory animal programs and facilities.

NCAB AALAS: Organized in 1961, the National Capital Area Branch (NCAB) is the local affiliate of the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS). NCAB AALAS is a member organization comprised primarily of laboratory animal science professionals in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. However, membership is open to anyone with an interest in the humane care and use of laboratory animals and the advancement of laboratory animal science. NCAB AALAS supports their members through community and member education and outreach, provides networking opportunities, and promotes laboratory animal science certification through training and scholarship.
