Yungho Hwang Named Chairperson of IIR Working Party
Dr. Yunho Hwang, Associate Director of the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE), has been appointed Chairperson of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) Working Party on Life Cycle Climate Performance Evaluation (LCCP). Hwang, Vice-President of IIR Commision B1, will head a working party responsible for investigating the climate performance of refrigeration systems. According to IIR, the findings of LCCP will aid in “determining next-generation working fluids for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.” The group's other objectives include, the establishment of an evaluation methodology for refrigeration and air-conditioning systems (and how user assumptions can affect findings when using that methodology), the assembly and publication of research findings, and the fostering of international collaboration in research related to the environmental impact of refrigeration and air-conditioning systems.
The Working Party’s first meeting will be held in June 2012, during the 10th IIR-Gustav Lorentzen Conference on Natural Working Fluids (GL2012) in Delft, the Netherlands.
The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) is: “the only independent intergovernmental science and technology based organization which promotes knowledge of refrigeration and associated technologies that improve quality of life in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner,” according to their mission statement.
