The ElevateR | July 2022

The Elevate Program is officially less than a year out from our Go Live date for our Human Capital Management and Finance modules. We remain on track to go live with these new systems on July 1, 2023. Leadership teams across our campuses are being encouraged to work with their staff and faculty to plan now for the substantial impacts of this historic transition to a new ERP system (for example, required training will start in April 2023). Planning and preparation are especially important given that training and other impacts will be occurring at a traditionally busy time during the end of the spring semester and end of the fiscal year.

During this phase of our implementation, Test & Train, the Elevate team will be hard at work to ensure the configured Workday system, integrations, and reports meet our institutions’ needs. Extensive testing will include payroll testing in coordination with the Maryland Central Payroll Bureau as well as engagement of staff and faculty in User Acceptance Testing (to occur in early 2023).

Our team will also develop and pilot end-user training, which will officially roll out to all employees starting in April 2023. We have already laid important groundwork for our end-user training. This past spring, we added training specialists to our Elevate team. They hit the ground running to develop course outlines for the planned 49 courses. They will continue to work with our functional teams to further develop the training materials that will equip all future Workday users with the knowledge and skills to be successful in Workday.

User training will be offered in a variety of ways depending on the course. Courses will be either computer-based so you can complete them at your own pace, or live instructor-led. The Elevate Program will also host optional user labs, where you can receive personalized attention and hands-on practice in Workday. Workday end-user training will be rolled out via ELMS-Canvas in April 2023, and you will be assigned training material based on your security role(s) in Workday. Elevate’s training specialists are also developing a variety of job aids and other materials to help employees navigate the new system after Go Live.

Speaking of training, this month’s Functional Overview is on Workday's learning hub. Workday Learning is the future home for employee development and training course content, which will be available to all employees after Workday Go Live. During this session, Learning Lead Shelby Byrd will give a sneak preview of how you will explore and enroll in courses, as well as how to view your required learning and learning history. In addition, you will get a behind-the-scenes look at how managers can enroll their teams in content and view learning progress. There is still time to register below:

Featured FAQs

Is Workday Learning replacing ELMS-Canvas?
No, Workday Learning is not replacing ELMS-Canvas. Workday Learning will be replacing training.umd.edu as well as ad-hoc course management and registration tools like Eventbrite and Google Forms. Put simply, employees will use Workday Learning to explore and enroll in courses. Workday Learning will integrate with:

  • ELMS-Canvas or Open Learning
  • LinkedIn Learning
  • CITI Program (Research compliance)
  • BioRAFT (Safety training)

Will we be able to get hands on training that will have Workday simulations?
In Spring 2023, we will provide training that includes computer-based training that will have Workday simulations. We will also have User Labs where people are welcome to join and have one-on-one attention as they have hands-on practice in Workday using scenarios applicable to the person's security role.
