From longstanding projects in malware detection and programming languages, to emerging areas like post-quantum cryptography or blockchains and cryptocurrencies, our MC2 community is agile and proactive as we advance new discoveries in cybersecurity and digital privacy.
Our Advantageous Location
With MC2 being located just outside of Washington, D.C., our faculty, postdocs and students can readily interact with government agencies and federal policymakers focused on cybersecurity. This includes research, education and internship opportunities with organizations like the U.S. Cyber Command, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and more.

MC2 researchers are at the forefront of research and scholarship in emerging areas like post-quantum cryptography, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, and the use of artificial intelligence tools to circumvent internet censorship. Much of this work involves our students—at both the graduate and undergraduate level—who are constantly bringing new ideas to the table.
Graduate Student Research
Our graduate students, currently more than 35 strong, are supported by a powerful computing infrastructure and have an open, engaging workspace to further their training and education. Students regularly meet with faculty advisers, visiting scholars and postdocs, and outside experts to enhance their knowledge and expertise in the field.
Conferences & Workshops
Our research community is active in presenting their work at leading conferences and workshops. Many of the MC2 papers and posters have won awards. Our faculty and students have also been asked to give keynote talks and presentations.
